I wrote my research narrative on the evolution of women’s right to an abortion. I chose to research this topic because women’s rights have always been interesting to me and I wanted to be more educated on how the right to abortions have changed overtime. The main reason why I decided to write my research narrative on the topic of women’s reproductive rights is because it is a topic that is important to me, and also many women.

The purpose for me writing my research narrative was primarily to inform. However, as I began to research and find out the truth about the past I found myself more passionate on the topic then originally intended. My purpose for writing then shifted to persuasion. I hope from reading my article I can persuade readers to support a woman’s right to choose.

Abortions are such a controvercial topic in the United States, so I don’t expect individuals to become public with their opinions after reading my paper. I would rather prefer them to take this information into consideration when voting for government officials. Like shared in my research narrative, government officials have a role in deciding abortion laws. The newest United States supreme court justice, Amy Berrett, has many women scared for their right to safe abortions. Abortions have become an issue in politics. I believe women’s flights shouldn’t be able to be debated in a courtroom, they should be given automatically.

My research narrative is based around the idea of a historical argument. I organized it like this because it gives me the opportunity to share how terrible things were for women in the past. This will make the readers feel remorse for women desiring an abortion in the past and get them to work for things to never go back to how they used to be.

Rationale

My research narrative is directed toward sharing the brutal history of abortions and bringing awareness to how much women have struggled for their right to one. Many women suffered or lost their lives because they couldn’t carry a child for medical reasons, but weren’t allowed an abortion. Some women didn’t have the money needed to raise a child. My research narrative shares how women’s rights have become a topic in politics. Representatives from the right tend to be more against abortions than those to the left. Although the main purpose of my research narrative is to inform individuals about the history of abortions, another purpose of my paper is to pursaude. In my research narrative I described the hardships women had to go through to receive an abortion before they were legal. By including this information I wanted readers to feel the struggle of the uncertain times women faced for many years before Roe V. Wade made its way to the United States supreme court. After experiencing my research narrative I want my readers to feel better informed on the history of abortions.

The rhetorical purpose of my research narrative is to inform and persuade the audience to rethink women’s abortion rights. In the past, before laws were concrete. Psychicians opinions were the deciding factor when deciding if a women was deserving of an abortion. Personally, I believe it isn’t a good idea to implement personal opinions when practicing medicine. If a women desired an abortion she had to hope her doctor shared the same views as her, or else she was out of luck. My intended audience would be women who share the same interest for women’s reproductive rights as me and want to be educated on the history of it all. Now is an advantageous time to present my research narrative because with the new U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Amy Barrett, women are scared that their right to a safe and legal abortion might be taken away. Barrett is known for being very conservitive when it comes to women’s rights. My research narrative shared the history of womens rights and how specifically the right to an abortion was illegal until 1973.

The structure that relates to my research narrative is cause and effect. This structure relates to my project because the cause is women wanting abortions for multiple reasons. The effect is then the dangerous circumstances women went through to receive them in the past. Ethos relates to my project because I have used multiple sources that are from published journals. When conducting my research I used the database through UWEC to ensure I had reliable sources. Pathos relates to my project because I shared the terrible circumstances women went through to receive abortions before they were legal. Pathos helps me to strengthen my research narrative because it shares the feelings women suffering had. Finally, logos relates to my research narrative because the introduction included a summary of the subtopics I was going to discuss in the paper. The body paragraphs that followed then explained the subtopics in further detail.

For my medium I chose to use Medium.com. I feel that this is the best option for my rhetorical project because it gives me the ability to explain my reasoning behind my research narrative. With my topic being so controversial it gives me the ability to express my reasoning with little misunderstanding. Medium.com also allows me to include graphics to help support my topic. Medium.com is a site where all types of articles are published online, making them easily accessible to anyone who chooses to read. Throughout the process of writing my research narrative I didn’t change my mind at all on the type of medium I was using. Medium.com is very easy to use and matches up with the topic of my research narrative perfectly.
